והוה מן בתר כדין ומית נחש מלכא דבני עמון ומליך בריה תחותוהי:
thkhwthwhy bryh wmlyk emwn dbny mlka nkhsh wmyth kdyn bthr mn whwh
After this, Nahash the king of the children of Ammon died, and his son reigned in his place.

ואמר דוד אעביד טיבו עם חנון בר נחש מטול דעבד אבוהי עמי טיבו ושלח דוד אזגדין לנחמותיה על אבוהי ואתו עבדי דוד לארעא בני עמון לות חנון לנחמותיה:
lnkhmwthyh khnwn lwth emwn bny larea dwd ebdy wathw abwhy el lnkhmwthyh azgdyn dwd wshlkh Tybw emy abwhy debd mTwl nkhsh br khnwn em Tybw aebyd dwd wamr
David said, “I will show kindness to Hanun the son of Nahash, because his father showed kindness to me.” So David sent messengers to comfort him concerning his father. David’s servants came into the land of the children of Ammon to Hanun to comfort him.

ואמרו רברבי בני עמון לחנון האפשר די מיקר דוד ית אבוך קדמך ארום שדר לך מנחמין הלא מן בגלל למחקר ולהפכא ולאללא ית ארעא אתו עבדוהי לותך:
lwthk ebdwhy athw area yth wlalla wlhpka lmkhqr bgll mn hla mnkhmyn lk shdr arwm qdmk abwk yth dwd myqr dy hapshr lkhnwn emwn bny rbrby wamrw
But the princes of the children of Ammon said to Hanun, “Do you think that David honors your father, in that he has sent comforters to you? Haven’t his servants come to you to search, to overthrow, and to spy out the land?”

ודבר חנון ית עבדי דוד וגרענון ופסיק ית לבושיהון מן פלגיהון עד בית בהתתהון ופטרנון:
wpTrnwn bhththhwn byth ed plgyhwn mn lbwshyhwn yth wpsyq wgrenwn dwd ebdy yth khnwn wdbr
So Hanun took David’s servants, shaved them, and cut off their garments in the middle at their buttocks, and sent them away.

ואזלו וחויאו על עיסק גבריא ושדר לקדמותהון ארום הוון גבריא מתכלמין לחדא ואמר מלכא תיבו ביריחו עד זמן די ירבי דקניכון ותתובון:
wththwbwn dqnykwn yrby dy zmn ed byrykhw thybw mlka wamr lkhda mthklmyn gbrya hwwn arwm lqdmwthhwn wshdr gbrya eysq el wkhwyaw wazlw
Then some people went and told David how the men were treated. He sent to meet them; for the men were greatly humiliated. The king said, “Stay at Jericho until your beards have grown, and then return.”

וחמון בני עמון ארום אתגריאו בדוד ושדר חנון ובני עמון אלף קנטירין דכסף למיגר להון מן ארם דעל פרת ומן ארם דעל מעכה ומצובה ארתכין ופרשן:
wprshn arthkyn wmtswbh mekh del arm wmn prth del arm mn lhwn lmygr dksp qnTyryn alp emwn wbny khnwn wshdr bdwd athgryaw arwm emwn bny wkhmwn
When the children of Ammon saw that they had made themselves odious to David, Hanun and the children of Ammon sent one thousand talents of silver to hire chariots and horsemen out of Mesopotamia, out of Aram-maacah, and out of Zobah.

ואגרו להון תלתין ותרין אלפין ארתכין וית מלך מעכה וית עמיה ואתו ושרו קדם מידבא ובני עמון אתכנישו מקרויהון ואתו לאגחא קרבא:
qrba lagkha wathw mqrwyhwn athknyshw emwn wbny mydba qdm wshrw wathw emyh wyth mekh mlk wyth arthkyn alpyn wthryn thlthyn lhwn wagrw
So they hired for themselves thirty-two thousand chariots, and the king of Maacah with his people, who came and encamped near Medeba. The children of Ammon gathered themselves together from their cities, and came to battle.

ושמע דוד ושדר ית יואב וית כל רישי חילא ואוכלוסי גבריא:
gbrya wawklwsy khyla ryshy kl wyth ywab yth wshdr dwd wshme
When David heard of it, he sent Joab with all the army of the mighty men.

ונפקו בני עמון וסדרו קרבא במעלנא דקרתא ומלכיא דאתו בלחודיהון בחקלא:
bkhqla blkhwdyhwn dathw wmlkya dqrtha bmelna qrba wsdrw emwn bny wnpqw
The children of Ammon came out, and put the battle in array at the gate of the city; and the kings who had come were by themselves in the field.

וחמא יואב ארום תקיפו עבדי קרבא עלוי מן קדמוי ומן בתרוהי ובחר מכל עולימי ישראל ושדר קרבא לקדמות ארם:
arm lqdmwth qrba wshdr yshral ewlymy mkl wbkhr bthrwhy wmn qdmwy mn elwy qrba ebdy thqypw arwm ywab wkhma
Now when Joab saw that the battle was set against him before and behind, he chose some of all the choice men of Israel, and put them in array against the Syrians.

וית שיר עמא מני ביד אבישי אחוהי וסדרו קרבא לקדמות בני עמון:
emwn bny lqdmwth qrba wsdrw akhwhy abyshy byd mny ema shyr wyth
The rest of the people he committed into the hand of Abishai his brother; and they put themselves in array against the children of Ammon.

ואמר אין מתקפין מני ארמאי ותהי לי לפריק ואין בני עמון יתקפון מנך ואפרקנך:
waprqnk mnk ythqpwn emwn bny wayn lpryq ly wthhy armay mny mthqpyn ayn wamr
He said, “If the Syrians are too strong for me, then you are to help me; but if the children of Ammon are too strong for you, then I will help you.

אתקף ונתקפה מטול עמנא ומטול קרוי אלהנא ויי דתקן קדמוהי יעביד:
yebyd qdmwhy dthqn wyy alhna qrwy wmTwl emna mTwl wnthqph athqp
Be courageous, and let’s be strong for our people and for the cities of our God. May Yahweh do that which seems good to him.”

וקריב יואב ועמא די עמיה קדם ארם לקרבא ואפכו מן קדמוהי:
qdmwhy mn wapkw lqrba arm qdm emyh dy wema ywab wqryb
So Joab and the people who were with him came near to the front of the Syrians to the battle; and they fled before him.

ובני עמון חמון ארום אפכו אנש ארם ואפכו ברם אנון מן קדם אבישי אחוהי ועלו לקרתא ואתא יואב לירושלם:
lyrwshlm ywab watha lqrtha welw akhwhy abyshy qdm mn anwn brm wapkw arm ansh apkw arwm khmwn emwn wbny
When the children of Ammon saw that the Syrians had fled, they likewise fled before Abishai his brother, and entered into the city. Then Joab came to Jerusalem.

וחמון אנש ארם ארום אתברו קדם ישראל ושדרו אזגדין ואפיקו ית ארם די בעיבר פרת ושופך רב חילא דהדרעזר קדמיהון:
qdmyhwn dhdrezr khyla rb wshwpk prth beybr dy arm yth wapyqw azgdyn wshdrw yshral qdm athbrw arwm arm ansh wkhmwn
When the Syrians saw that they were defeated by Israel, they sent messengers and called out the Syrians who were beyond the River, with Shophach the captain of the army of Hadadezer leading them.

ואתחוא לדוד וכנש ית כל ישראל ועבר ית ירדנא ואתא לותהון וסדר לקבליהון וסדר דוד לקדמות ארם קרבא ואגיחו עמיה:
emyh wagykhw qrba arm lqdmwth dwd wsdr lqblyhwn wsdr lwthhwn watha yrdna yth webr yshral kl yth wknsh ldwd wathkhwa
David was told that, so he gathered all Israel together, passed over the Jordan, came to them, and set the battle in array against them. So when David had put the battle in array against the Syrians, they fought with him.

ואפכו אנש ארם מן קדם ישראל וקטל דוד מאנשי ארם שבעת אלפין ארתכין וארבעין אלפין גוברין רגלאין וית שופך רב חליה קטל:
qTl khlyh rb shwpk wyth rglayn gwbryn alpyn warbeyn arthkyn alpyn shbeth arm manshy dwd wqTl yshral qdm mn arm ansh wapkw
The Syrians fled before Israel; and David killed of the Syrian men seven thousand charioteers and forty thousand footmen, and also killed Shophach the captain of the army.

וחמון עבדי הדרעזר ארום אתברו קדם ישראל ואשלמו עם דוד ופלחו ליה ולא צבו אנשי ארם למפרק ית בני עמון תוב:
thwb emwn bny yth lmprq arm anshy tsbw wla lyh wplkhw dwd em washlmw yshral qdm athbrw arwm hdrezr ebdy wkhmwn
When the servants of Hadadezer saw that they were defeated by Israel, they made peace with David and served him. The Syrians would not help the children of Ammon any more.
